I attended a Wordpress Webinar on installing plug-ins to SEO my Wordpress Blog. There were hundreds if not thousands of plug-ins to improve one’s blog. After the webinar, I chose to install the Google XML Sitemap plug-in. The webinar host indicated that this plugin was good for my blog. After the download (install), I could not get back into my “Dashboard”. My blog was down! It took many hours to put this blog up via GoDaddy the host of my website. I thought that if I paid for my site via GoDaddy I would not have these problems. I called GoDaddy about this error message and they said it would cost $150.00 to fix my blog! Knowledge does cost when dealing with the unknown. Keep in mind that this fix is for a hosted site. This blog was to be the one that I could grow from. My plan was to put up many quality blogs to help people solve their problems. Maybe I should start by solving a problem that I created.

How am I going to fix this? Whom do I call? I started to search the “Warning: Cannot modify header information – headers already sent”…error message on Google, who else. Technical reading requires one to read the same material more than once. Slowly, I started to learn a little bit about FTP (Files Transfer Protocol).

I played around with ftp because I had little technical experience. I found my way to the root directory and studied all the files looking for wp-content/plugins/wp-greetbox/wp-greetbox.php:1812, because the problem was in the last plug-in that I downloaded. Getting to the root directory requires you to put this into your browser: “ftpmysite.com”-them the browser gives you ftp://ftpmysite.com, root Directory. Then you go to “view” (drop down menu) on your browser and click “Open FTP Site in Windows Explorer”. Then login (your ID&PW) and you will find the files to your Wordpress blog. Since the error message had to do with the wp-content Directory, click it and go to the plugins Directory. Find the last plug-in that caused the error message. At this point you can open a folder and copy this file to your my documents. Now be careful and delete the copied file from your ftp file. You made a copy in case you choose the wrong file.

Open up another window to check your blog to see if it is ok, if not continue to copy and delete each plug-in. In addition, you could just copy the plug-in folder, then delete it, and then check your blog.

This information is from a non-techie who spent almost two days finding a solution to this error message.
In summary:

1. Analyze the error message (copy and paste to Notepad or to Word)
2. Research the error message
3. Research some more
4. Get to the root directory as explained above
5. Look for wp-content Directory – look for plug-ins
6. Go to your browser click on the drop down menu “View”
7. Click on the phrase-Open FTP Site in Windows Explorer
8. Login
9. There it is-the files to your Wordpress blog (be very careful)
10. Open up a new folder [MyComputer] under “MyDocuments”(name it FTP, if you want)
11. Now minimize both windows so they are side to side
12. You should be able to drag and drop the file in question from the server (host) to your “MyDocuments.
13. Delete, with great care the last plug-in from the server/host (you have made a copy so don’t worry)
14. Check your blog to see if all is ok
15. Repeat the above until your error message disappears.

Note: If your Wordpress Blog is hosted by GoDaddy, you can also check your files in the HOSTING section of there website. Moreover, just call the GoDaddy help desk and ask for help.

After two days of ftp and GoDaddy the story ends on a positive note………………

WordPress is one of the many options available to bloggers who are looking for free software online which makes it incredibly easy to publish their own blog. This software is easy to use, provides a variety of templates and offer excellent support to bloggers. There are many options available to bloggers and other blogging programs may be better known and offer slightly different features but many bloggers are quite pleased with Wordpress. This article will offer some useful information for bloggers who are considering starting a blog with Wordpress such as reasons to choose Wordpress, tips on starting a blog and information about the support offered by Wordpress. Based on this information as well as their own research bloggers can decide whether Wordpress is right for them or whether they should seek out a different blog network.

Reasons to Choose Wordpress

There are many great reasons to choose Wordpress to start a blog. Some of these reasons include a great variety of Wordpress templates, the ability to categorize and tag posts easily, features such as spell check, previews and autosave, the ability to post text, audio files and video files, a variety of privacy options and the ability to track statistical data related to the blog in addition to other great features. Some of these features may be more important to some bloggers than others so deciding whether or not Wordpress is right for you will largely be a matter of personal preference. For example bloggers with little or no programming experience may enjoy the myriad of templates available on Wordpress while bloggers who are concerned about privacy issues may be more interested in the privacy options available through Wordpress. Carefully investigating these features will help bloggers determine if they should start a blog with Wordpress.

Starting a Blog with Wordpress

Bloggers who opt to start a blog with Wordpress will certainly not be disappointed by the amount of time it takes to start a blog. A blogger can literally start a blog with Wordpress within minutes. This is tremendously important to bloggers who are eager to get started and do not want to deal with a long process to start a blog. The only requirements for starting a blog are a valid email address and a username. The blogger enters this information into the signup page and receives a password almost instantly. Next the blogger simply has to check his email, follow the activation link provided and use the password provided and the process is complete. The blogger can start blogging immediately.

When most people think of what it means to make money blogging, two words seem to come up almost automatically: “instant cash”. And yet blogging for money isn’t your ticket to quick wealth as it’s often made out to be. Most of today’s most successful bloggers didn’t go through any shortcuts and SEO hocus pocus. Instead, they established themselves as experts by creating quality content and maintaining their blog faithfully.

One of the first things that you have to do as a professional blogger is to get ready for all the work that lies ahead of you. Keep in mind that your blog won’t be the only one of its kind that’s already up and running, which means that competition for reader’s attention is much stiffer now. In addition, you probably won’t be able to for the first six months, or even for the first year! When your blog is just starting out, maintaining it will require a lot of your time and energy. Make sure that you plan your schedule wisely, especially if you already have a day job to take care of.

Despite these challenges, professional blogging can prove to be very fulfilling once your site has gained a foothold in its own niche and readership base. You don’t just get to write about the things you care about — you also get paid just for sharing your knowledge and opinions about them on your blog! Before beginning, however, consider these basic principles for professional blogging. Follow these principles, and you’ll find that blogging for money can be as enjoyable as it is profitable:

1. Decide on a niche to specialize in, and plan out your blog accordingly:

Will you be writing about sports? Or will you be running a steady stream of political commentary on your site? Are you considering putting up restaurant reviews? Whatever it is that you choose to specialize in, make sure that the rest of your blog follows suit. Choose a blog template, for example, that matches your overall theme, and keep your blog posts within the bounds of your chosen niche.

You can afford to create an off-topic blog post every so often, but if you want to gain your readers’ trust and establish yourself as an expert, it’s better to be consistent with your blog entries. For instance, if your blog is about technology, don’t write at length about how you and your girlfriend had a fight the other night, or share your favorite recipe for moussaka.

What’s more important, however, is for you to pick a subject that you’re passionate about. Think of a niche that’s interesting enough for you to write about. It’s hard to fake enthusiasm for a topic that you don’t actually care much about, and it’s a tactic that usually backfires. For instance, don’t create a blog on wedding planning just because it’s a popular niche.

Instead, choose a niche that you feel strongly about, whether it’s food, politics, religion, photography, or even something as esoteric as zoology.

Remember, a good blog is one that’s written with obvious zeal and passion, and dealing with a topic you love ensures that you won’t get sick of writing about it year after year.

2. Update frequently:

Updating your blog regularly can make a big difference in the volume of traffic that your blog receives. Because site traffic usually translates into revenue, you have to ensure that readers are visiting your blog frequently. Encourage them to visit by updating your content as regularly as you can. People don’t want to return to a blog only to find a post that they’d already read before! Make your readers’ visits worth their time by providing them with new content as often as possible.

Frequent updating also ensures that Google and other search engines index your site frequently, making your blog more visible and accessible to others. If you don’t want your blog to fall into obscurity, you have to work at giving your readers a lot of fresh entries.

3. Take advantage of ad networks and affiliate programs:

Once you’ve got your blog up and running, you can look into more direct ways of earning money from your site. A good way to jumpstart this is by signing up for Google Adsense, which rewards you for each click that an advertising link receives from your site.

You can also sign up for an affiliate program such as Amazon.com Associates, Clickbank, or Azoogle. An affiliate program will reward you for every purchase or sign-up that a visitor of your blog makes, as long as he/she clicked through to the product offer from your blog.

Whether or not you like it, blogging for money will always involve some form of advertising in your blog. Your revenue, however, will be dependent on the number of readers who flock to your site; the more readers you have, the bigger the chances of having those links clicked on.

4. Write quality posts:

No matter how frequently you update your site, and no matter how many ad networks you’re part of, you can’t earn any long-term revenue unless you offer your readers a lot of quality, credible content. Nobody wants to read something that’s poorly or shabbily written, so do your best to write as well and as accurately as you can.

When your readers realize that they can rely on you to give them solid advice and credible information regarding your niche, they’re bound to return to your blog, as well as create backlinks to your site that will boost your search engine ranking. When you’ve established yourself as an expert, that’s when your readership starts to increase and swell up enough for you to earn money from your blog.

Although there are different ways through which people make money blogging, the best tactic is still to provide quality content to your readers. Remember that people aren’t attracted to your site just because it has a pretty template. While a good template can make a good impression, your visitors are there for the information you can provide! You should note, however, that everything about your blog should tie up neatly in the end, and you’re going to have to work a bit more to achieve this. Once you’ve gotten the hang of it, you’re sure to be blogging your way towards a real and sustainable profit!
